Tattoo Aftercare - A&D Ointment

Estimated Healing Time

Everyone heals at a different rate. Generally, you can expect your tattoo to heal completely within 4 weeks. The surface of the tattoo will heal within 2-3 weeks.

What do I need to do?

Good aftercare is the single most important thing you can do to protect your tattoo. While it is healing, NEVER touch your tattoo without first washing you hands with a mild, liquid antibacterial soap. Initially, leave your bandage on for 1-3 hours. After removing the bandage in a clean environment, gently wash the tattooed area with warm water and an antibacterial soap. Pat dry with a clean, disposable paper towel and DO NOT re-bandage.

Until the surface of the tattoo is healed (at a minimum of 2 to 3 weeks), wash the area gently 2 to 3 times per day. After cleaning the tattoo during this 2 to 3 week period, gently apply a very thin coat of Vitamin A&D ointment. Gently rub the product into the tattoo area. After rubbing in the product adequately, pat the area with a disposable paper towel to absorb any extra product. Over-saturation of a product can interfere with healing. LESS IS MORE.

CAUTION

Until the surface of your tattoo is fully healed, DO NOT expose your tattoo to chlorine pools, hot tubs, lake or ocean water, direct sunlight, tanning bed lights or other harsh conditions or chemicals. DO NOT pick at scabs or scratch your tattoo.

Your tattoo has been done appropriately...

... now its up to you!

RECOVERY DERM SHIELD AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

Gently clean and pat dry the tattoo and surrounding area, ensuring there is no soap or any residue on the skin. Peel off the backing of the Derm Shield to expose the adhesive side and position the Derm Shield over the tattoo with the adhesive side facing the skin. Gently apply using light pressure, starting from the center to the edges to eliminate air bubbles. Do not stretch the Derm Shield during application.

The first Derm Shield application should stay in place for 24 hours, depending on level of exudation. It is normal for blood and fluids to collect under the bandage.

A second application can be used for several days, and a third application may be used if necessary. Gently clean and dry the area between applications. Do not wear any piece longer than one week.
